When I say get to the show early it’s because so far this year every show has been standing room only. If you haven’t been to Comedy Heights at Twiggs on Saturday nights you are missing the best stand up comedy show in San Diego. This past Saturday Dave Wright, Brian Apprille, Nicki Fuchs, Joe Carl Abousakher, Kurt Swann, Grace Klein and Al Gavi flat out brought the funny to a packed room!
Dave Wright is a product of the mean streets, roads and cul-de-sacs of suburban Wilmington, Delaware. As a boy, Dave began studying acting to get himself away from the Rampage, Street Fighter, and Pitfall! to which so many his age succumbed. At 27, Dave moved to San Diego, California to pursue his lifelong dream of not living in Delaware. A few months later, he performed his first comedy routine and found his true passion in life: Stand- Up Comedy. Dave Wright is a regular at the La Jolla Comedy Store, Mad House Comedy Club and performed with some of the best comedians in the world like Joe Rogan, Bill Burr, Judd Apatow, Drew Carey to name a few. He was featured in the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper and was a finalist in San Diego’s funniest person contest.
A professional stand-up comedian since 1997, Brian Apprille has performed all over the country making people laugh at various casinos, clubs, colleges, churches, and other events. Critics call him, “brilliantly entertaining,” and “coast-to-coast funny,” as he talks about his personal struggles with his weight, plus an illness resulting in facial paralysis, along with observations about the quirks of society and life. He blends them in with a variety of over 100 impressions, resulting in an performance that has been called “a spectacular exhibition of high-energy comedy” that both entertains and inspires! Brian was the winner of the 2016 Clean Comedy Challenge, and has been featured on AOL’s Comedy Spotlight, SprintTV, and has appeared on NBC and in Disney’s “The Game Plan.” He filmed his first special for Dry Bar Comedy just last week.
