This just in: Aussie Chick Maria Herman, Comedy Heights co-producer and San Diego’s only Australian comedienne, is headlining this Saturday at Comedy Heights.
If you haven’t seen Maria perform, you’re in for a treat. She’s back from her recent trip to India and she’s so full of energy that she makes jet lag sleepy. Maria has been busy in recent months. In January, Maria did a three-day, five show run with Dat Phan, a native San Diegan and first winner of “Last Comic Standing.” She was a host at the 1st Annual San Diego Comedy Festival, and has emceed everything from a Balboa Park Fundraiser for a Rural School in India, to an 8 band rock concert at The House of Blues. Maria is a professional voice over specialist and book narrator, and uses her various international accents and character voices in the sketch comedy radio show ‘Keeping It Weird’ that is now available as a podcast on iTunes. Maria adds to her list of credits the Hollywood Improv; Flappers and Icehouse Comedy Clubs in LA and The Comedy Store, Comedy Palace and Madhouse Comedy Clubs in San Diego. She has also appeared on the UT-TV Comic Strip.
Here are some Maria Herman fun facts (as told to Sarabeth Pollock):
What comedian would you love to meet? Eddie Izzard (she says he inspires her and she likes the way he thinks) or Monty Python
What were your favorite TV shows growing up: Monty Python, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Gilligan’s Island, Fawlty Towers
If you could host a dinner party with any 5 people from history, dead or alive, who would they be? Jesus, Buddha, Bob Hope, and a few members of her family (she’s been doing some genealogy work and would like to know how the family name was changed way back when)
As always, Comedy Heights promises fresh, FREE and really funny comedy every Saturday night at Twiggs. Make sure you arrive early—seating is as limited as parking in University Heights these days. Comedy Heights is the best kept secret in town…but feel free to tell everyone that! Doors open at 7:30pm and the show starts at 8pm.
