One of the best things about stand up is watching completely different people walk onto the same stage and somehow make the same room laugh. That was the story this past weekend at Comedy Heights. Jason Kaye brought a performer’s versatility to Lestat’s. Comedy, acting, music and character work are all part of his background, and that experience showed in a confident stage presence that gave the audience something different from a traditional straight stand up set. Then Kristy Matsutani took things in another direction entirely. Kristy has never been afraid to find comedy in places most people would rather avoid. Her quick wit, dark humor and willingness to make herself part of the joke gave the weekend a wonderfully unpredictable edge. Dan Yourg and Adam Macias joined both nights, with Tony Garcia on Friday and Al Gavi on Saturday, giving each show its own personality. There was no single comedy style connecting the lineup, and that was exactly the point. Different backgrounds, different perspectives, different deliveries, all sharing one microphone.

Comedy Heights has always been at its best when the audience gets more than just a headliner. You get a chance to see comics you know, discover comics you don’t and occasionally hear somebody say something that makes you think, “I can’t believe they just said that.” Then you laugh anyway. Thanks to everyone who came out to Lestat’s and spent part of their weekend with us. We’ll do it all again next Friday and Saturday at 8 PM.
