Halloween weekend at Comedy Heights came with a former professional wrestler, a national touring storyteller, and enough comedians to keep Lestat’s busy both nights.
Bob Hansen brought one of the more unusual backgrounds we’ve had on the Comedy Heights stage. Before stand up, Bob was a professional wrestler, trained by WWE legend Afa “The Wild Samoan,” and won the San Diego Pro Wrestling Heavyweight Championship in 2010. These days he’s a regular at the La Jolla Comedy Store and performs on its Best of San Diego showcase. Lisa Gilbert came at the audience from a completely different direction. Her storytelling style has taken her around the country to comedy clubs, corporate events and churches, and she has her own Dry Bar Comedy special. JP Connolly joined the Friday show, Dan Yourg stepped in Saturday, and Al Gavi was there both nights.
That made for a weekend with plenty of variety. Nobody sounded like the person before them, and the shows never settled into one rhythm for very long. Which is exactly what you want. It was also Halloween weekend, so technically the audience could have shown up dressed as anything they wanted. Fortunately, the comedians already came disguised as responsible adults. Thanks to Bob Hansen, Lisa Gilbert, JP Connolly, Dan Yourg and Al Gavi and the Comedy Heights LaughPac, and to everyone who spent part of their Halloween weekend with us at Lestat’s.
