Comedy Heights started September with Amanda Cohen at the center of two very different lineups Friday and Saturday night. Amanda’s comedy comes from a point of view you don’t hear often enough onstage: sharp, experienced, a little fearless, and completely comfortable finding the ridiculous parts of getting older. She gave the weekend a strong anchor without making the shows feel predictable. The rest of the lineup made sure of that.n Zara Khan, Zach Nayer and JP Connolly joined Amanda both nights, with Al Gavi on Friday and Dan Yourg on Saturday. Different ages, different styles, different ways of looking at the world. That matters in a small room like Lestat’s. When every comic sounds different from the one before, the audience never gets a chance to settle into autopilot. And that was the feel of the weekend. No assembly line comedy. No five versions of the same act. Just a bunch of comics walking up to the microphone and saying, in one way or another, “This is how I see things.” Then seeing if the room agrees.
