This past Friday and Saturday at Lestat’s, Comedy Heights put together one of those lineups where the fun came from never quite knowing what was coming next. Chris Angell, Paige Weldon and Jon Alcabes shared the featured spots, and they couldn’t be much more different from one another. Chris came at the room from the perspective of marriage, getting older and trying to make sense of everyday life. Paige brought her own dry, smart approach, while Jon added a completely different energy and point of view. Then Emily Rowe and Al Gavi added their voices to the mix with a surprise drop in from Kristy Guy on Saturday night.  The Comedy Heights LaughPac got each show off to a great start.

That’s what made the weekend work. There wasn’t a house style. Nobody had to sound like anybody else. One comic could take the audience in one direction, then the next person could completely change the temperature of the room. That’s stand up at its best. One microphone and a room full of people who had no idea what the next person was going to say. And for a couple of hours on Friday and Saturday night, that was enough.
