Comedy Heights packed a lot of comedy into Lestat’s this past Friday and Saturday, with Jim Gallagher, Kash Habib and Austin Train sharing the spotlight for a weekend that felt more like a mini comedy festival than a typical two-night run. Jim Gallagher brought the seasoned point of view and polished delivery of a comic who knows exactly where he wants to take an audience. Kash Habib added another completely different voice to the mix, bringing his own perspective and personality to the stage, while Austin Train rounded out the featured trio with a style that gave the shows yet another change of pace. That variety was the real strength of the weekend. Rather than one comedic tone from start to finish, audiences got a lineup of performers with different rhythms, viewpoints and approaches to getting a laugh. Christian Scala and Al Gavi helped keep both nights moving, with JP Connolly joining the Friday lineup and Rachel Lloyd hosting both shows. The rotating lineup meant each show had its own identity while still feeling like part of the same Comedy Heights weekend.

And that’s one of the things that continues to make these shows work: you never quite know what kind of comedy is coming next. A different voice, a different perspective, a different way of looking at something everybody in the room thought they already understood. For five bucks at Lestat’s, that’s a pretty good way to spend a weekend. Three featured comics. Two different shows. And plenty of reasons to come back next Friday and Saturday.
